My Girly Closet

IMG_1937.jpg

This was the most unnecessary, but so necessary of projects. I fully recognize that I am so blessed with how big and nice this closet is. Trust me, I have had my fair share of unfortunate closet situations.

From our first apartment that had no insulation so it literally molded half my clothes due to the heat difference, to a closet at our first house that you walked straight into the clothes rack. This was a true gift with this house.

Because of that I wanted to dress it up! I live in a house with all boys, a husband, a son, and two boy pups. I don’t typically gravitate towards pink, but lately I’m digging it. So when Photowall reached out and wanted to collaborate on a wallpaper make over, I was all for it!

First up was just cleaning out the closet. I had not truly gone through my clothes since high school. It was crazy. I have been purging my house for months now and am so close to getting rid of all the things that are either not used, could be donated, or need to be thrown out. It really is a great feeling.

After we cleaned out the closet and organized our clothes (heck yes for matching hangers!!), next up was the light fixture. I wanted something kind of dramatic but I’m not a crystal chandelier type person. When I managed to find this fixture, that matched both the light I found for the dining room and the foyer light, for $30 on momma swap I was sold. Couple coats of black spray paint later and we were in business.

Because of the odd shape of this wall and the window in the center I went with a more ombre non descript pattern. I liked that it was simple, but still had enough detail that made it fancier than just painting an accent wall.

So you all know I have done a fair share of wall paper. I actually am good enough at it I am helping a friend with some next week. But I’ve never done real wallpaper. Like mix your own paste roll on a wall, wallpaper. So this definitely had a learning curve for me! But they labeled the panels, told you how to mix the paste, and it was fairly self explanatory.

If this had been an ordinary wall with no angles, hooks, or windows, I think I could have gone much faster. But alas, it was not. So piece by piece I cut and figured out how to get this pink wall put together. I’ll be honest, it was a challenge, but I got it done in one day and am so pleased with the results!

That light fixture, am I right? Also not the easiest of projects, but Aaron is getting pretty handy with my electrical ideas!

I also dragged this beautiful antique rug in here. It was originally at the foot of our bed, but it was too small for that space. It fit perfectly in the closet and has just the perfect touch of feminine.

I’m so thrilled I tackled this space! It’s a nice treat for myself as I get started for the day and the fact that it is now filled with clothes I actually wear and that fit is an added bonus. I really wanted to step up my girly game and frame some shopping bags from places like Madewell and Fossil, etc. because I though that would really tip the scale on being bougie, but the jewelry holders were far more practical. Maybe someday… ;)
