So let's be honest for a minute. How often do we get so caught up in a bad day, that it quickly spirals out of control? Where everything that could go wrong seems to? When in actuality, if we think about it, our bad days really aren't so bad? I have an EXTREMELY hard time not playing the comparison game, and often find myself throwing a pity party. Which is ridiculous, because when all things are considered, I'm more than a little blessed. But for those days when we need a little pick me up, here are a few quick tips on how to bring a smile to your face and wash away some of that stress.
1. Buy yourself flowers
Something about seeing fresh flowers on my counter just brightens my day. I've gotten into the habit of keeping some on my kitchen counter, pretty much regularly, because they put me in a better mood. No sense in waiting on someone to buy you some!
2. Play your favorite "turn the music up loud enough you can't hear me singing at the top of my lungs" song
If you can sing, congrats. Some of us were not blessed with musical talent. But that doesn't mean I don't love to practically shout my favorite songs when I'm by myself in the car or shower. Yelling makes you feel better.
3. Take a Walk
Sometimes just stepping away from the situation and getting some fresh air is the solution. A little bit of sweat and some time to process are super helpful in gaining some perspective.
4. Hug on your pet or tiny human
I'm not a mother yet, but I think it's safe to say I know a little about unconditional love from my puppies. There is something about someone being so excited about seeing you when you walk through the door, and the happy, expectation free cuddles that follow, that is good for the soul. A reminder that you are loved can ease quite a bit of problems.
5. Treat Yourself
I immediately think of Tom on Parks and Rec with this tip, but it's true. A little pick-me-up, whether it's a Starbucks or a shirt you've been eyeing, goes a long way to raise spirits. Personally, I love to go completely white girl basic and get a Starbucks while walking through Target. Presumably while rocking a top knot.
A little reassurance that everything is going to be okay is all you need. And a little perspective. I am seriously so blessed, with so much to be grateful for, but sometimes that gets forgotten. So I use these little pick-me-ups to boost my mood, and remind myself of that! So here's to hoping you have a wonderful day!
